Acrylic Paint Rack

The Best Acrylic Paint Rack for Miniature Paints (Cheap)

For years and years I collected paint for my miniatures. I started painting miniatures in 2006, so my collection of paints has grown quite a lot. During all those years I have never had a paint organizer and it bugged me. So, I finally got myself an acrylic paint rack that holds all my paints and I wanted to review it for you all.

Home-it Acrylic Paint Rack & Organizer

I did an article on miniature paint racks that covered a lot of options. However, the problem I had with most of them was the space efficiency of them was lacking. I just didn’t feel they maximized on the use of space to get more paint in there.

Long story short, some organizers look great but that looks comes at the cost of space. I don’t care what it looks like as long as it’s efficient and cost effective.

Over the years I’ve seen a lot of painters use nail polish racks. Most of the ones I had seen used were the wall-mounted variety.

While I appreciate the space savings wall-mounting offers, I don’t care for having the paints so out of reach. I don’t want to have to get up to reach paints while I’m working. What can I say, I’m lazy.

So, I continued to hunt and hunt, and then one day I stumbled on this acrylic paint rack from Home-it on Amazon. It’s intended for nail polish, but of course you can use it for anything you need.

The thing I really liked about that particular organizer was the use of space. There’s no frills, nothing fancy, just a tiered shelving setup where paints go side by side. That means there’s no wasted space. Also, it means I can see my paints easily as well.

I checked out the reviews and found them positive. There are a lot of reviews from lots of buyers and it’s very well reviewed.

I also saw that another miniature painter bought one and they fit his Citadel paints.

I knew I found the solution I needed, so I bought myself two of these acrylic paint racks to store my current collection of 133 paints.

Speaking of, the price is awesome. I got two of these for less than other storage setups that hold less paint.

The low cost was another big factor in picking these up. The cost is so low that it didn’t require much consideration at all before pulling the trigger, and I’m notorious for sitting on decisions like this for weeks and even months.

The Breakdown

I didn’t get any pictures of putting the acrylic paint rack together, but it comes in 3 parts. The center and each side that holds it up. Each side attaches to the center shelves with 2 screws per-side. So, putting this together only takes a few minutes.

Two of the acrylic paint racks side-by-side.

The size of this is: 16 inches wide, 8.25 inches deep, and 6.5 inches tall. It doesn’t take up a lot of space at all, which was a huge selling point for me since my paint desk isn’t big.

The size of the shelves is 1.5 inches in depth. So, if you’re curious about whether or not your paints will fit then that will help you out. As you can see from the image above, it also fits my super glue in there. I also have a P3 paint bottle that fits in there. So, these shelves seem to work for all the major paint companies out there.

I can tell you that you can fit 12 Citadel pots per-shelf, so 60 pots total on one of these acrylic paint racks. Also, I know you can also fit 16 Vallejo dropper bottles per-shelf, so 80 bottles total will fit on one rack.

As noted above, pictured above is my 133 paints between Citadel and Vallejo. Well, roughly 133 as I did throw out a few that were dried up.

The thing I was really impressed with was the quality of the acrylic itself. I thought it was be super cheap and flimsy. However, the side legs are a solid 3/16 inches thick, with the center storage area be around 1/16 inches thick. The entire organizer is solid and isn’t going anywhere.

Here’s a few more shots to show the organizer.

Conclusion

There’s only so much that can be said of an acrylic paint rack. I’m extremely happy I picked two of these up and I wish I did it sooner. The price, quality, and storage make these an awesome buy for anyone.

I’m also a big fan of the tiered shelving setup as well. I like being able to see all my paints and have them within reach as I’m painting. Granted, it’s not as space saving as a wall shelf, but it’s still space efficient and far more convenient to use.

So, if you’re in the market for a paint rack then you can’t go wrong with getting a few of these.

Now I finally need to get myself a paint brush organizer to clear up the rest of my desk clutter. I also need a hobby tool organizer as well.
